You don't need to have this program open for this to work. The first time I did it, I had to attempt connection twice. You're done with the first-time configuration and you can remove the cable and use the PS button to connect via bluetooth. Also crucial, click on Apply Changes before closing this program. I struggled for hours with the option here that mentions Steam. Select the controller on the left-hand side list to display details and options, and under "HID device mode", select DS4Windows.The controller should now appear listed in the program (left-hand pane), indicating that it has been detected. Plug your PS3 controller via a USB cable. Now, to get the controllers detected wirelessly, launch DSHMC.exe (as Admin), which is among the files extracted from the DsHidMini zip.Step 2: first-time controller connection and setup * Download and install DS4Windows, following the instructions here (to me, it seemed complicated at first sight, but I was done in 5 minutes): * In the DsHidMini files, go to the 圆4 folder (for 64 bit PCs) or x86 folder (for 32 bit), subfolder "dshidmini" and right-click on each setup information file (dshidmini.inf and igfilter.inf) and select "install". You'll use this whenever you need to set up a new DS3 controller. Extract all files from the zip file, and save them in a folder that you'll remember. See the FAQ at the DsHidMini page if you still have errors ( ) If you get an error, make sure that your bluetooth is on before launching the installer. * BthPS3: Download and install these bluetooth drivers (follow instructions therein). * First, activate you computer's bluetooth Below my own quick summary, you can try my steps first, and refer to the full guide if anything fails Step 1: installation of required programs and driversįull and updated instructions here. The method below works much more generally and conveniently than anything else I've tried. I also got decent results at some point with x360ce, but it takes a lot more effort to set up and does not allow rumble effects. my advice, based on experience and advice I got from others, is to completely forget about Steam controller setup - don't even touch it. Just to get this out of the way: Steam is apparently supposed to support Dual Shock 3 natively, but in my experience, everything around controller support and configuration in Steam is absolute crap. The cable is needed whenever you want to connect a DS3 controller to your PC *for the first time*, or re-connect it to the PC after you've connected it to your PS3.
